Grade 347 is columbium (niobium) / tantalum stabilized austenitic stainless steel with good general corrosion resistance and somewhat better resistance in strong oxidizing conditions and has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 – 1500 degree F (427 – 816 degree C). Alloy 347 has a slightly improved corrosion resistance over other alloys of stainless steel in strongly oxidizing environments as a result of the addition of columbium (niobium) and tantalum. Columbium-tantalum carbides precipitate within the grains instead of forming at the grain boundaries. The alloy has good oxidation resistance and creep strength to 1500 degrees F (816 degrees C). It also possesses good low-temperature toughness.
